Thetford 365 Porta Potti Review

The Porta Potti 365 Thetford is conveniently sized to take up as little space as possible. The main focus was to make this compact toilet as functional and small as possible. The height of the toilet is a very safe height for most people. The toilet has a very modern, clean, and sleek design and an ergonomic carrying handle which makes it easy to carry around.  All in all, it’s a very durable lightweight toilet that’s easy to clean.

A stand-out feature of the Porta Potti 365 Thetford portable toilet is the exclusive, rotating pour-out spout equipped with a piston pump flush. Going further, you also have a removable seat and cover that makes this toilet a breeze to cleaning. The sealed valve that’s embedded in the portable toilet keeps odors in the holding tank and helps create an odorless environment. The indicator is easy to read for outdoorsmen (or ladies) looking to use this toilet. The level indicator tells the user when to empty the waste tank.

  • Designed to reduce odor to the absolute minimum.
  • Construction is very durable and should last many years of outdoor adventuring.
  • Sized to be stored conveniently in just about any situation.
  • Super high-quality seals ensure a leak-free bathroom experience.
  • Fantastic range of supporting chemicals and products direct from Thetford.
  • Thetford customer support is very responsive and eager to keep customers happy.
  • The unbeatable 3-year warranty comes with each toilet.
  • It’s not required but it comes with a nice deodorant sample (I like free stuff).

  • Due to the size of the toilet, it might be a little low to the ground for a taller person.
  • You need to use biodegradable toilet paper with this toilet.

Overall,  the Thetford Porta Potti 365 is one of our favorite portable toilets. When you buy a Thetford you expect a certain level of quality product, and this toilet really lives up to those expectations. I really appreciate the effort that has gone into designing this toilet. If you’re considering the purchase of a portable toilet consider the 365. It should definitely make it onto your shortlist.

While it’s true the Thetford 365 can be blocked easily by improper use of paper, to be fair,  it also applies to other portable toilets as well. It’s not a big enough issue not to buy this product. Just make sure to follow the manufacturers’ instructions for using and maintaining the toilet. We’re sure that if you do this, you’ll have this Porta Potti for many years to come.

Thetford’s History

You may be familiar with the Thetford brand name. Thetford company actually invented the Porta Potti. It’s been nearly 60 years since the first portable toilet was introduced. Their wildly popular products received many updates and upgrades throughout the years. Thetford itself was founded in 1963 and based out of Michigan. Ever since they first opened their doors for business, they’ve been producing high-quality products for everyday users. Their main target audience was people who were passionate about travel, camping, and the outdoorsy lifestyle.

Their products were designed to convenience users with a life on the go. This was their lifeblood and the main driver for their business model. As you know, they’re world leaders in the production of highly mobile sanitary systems, just like the 365 Porta Potti! Their commitment to providing constant support and maintenance for their products exceeds their reputation worldwide. All of their recommended maintenance products have been designed and tested at their in-house facilities.

If that’s not enough to persuade you, then maybe their strong environmental position will help change your mind. Thetford is dedicated to the development and production of sustainable products that cause little to no harm to the environment. They strive to reduce waste and limit the environmental impact of every product they produce at every stage of its life cycle.

Thetford 365 Porta Potti Overview

The waste tank on the Thetford portable toilet is a pretty decent size. It holds up to 21-liters of liquid waste. This should last the average 4-person family around a couple of days before it needs to be emptied. That’s just long enough for a quick 2-day weekend trip. If you’ve got a larger family then it may be a little less. Obviously, this isn’t set in stone but an educated guess.

In reality, these toilets are affordable and easy to transport. If you’re a solo camper, I’d estimate you’ll get around 5 days before you need to empty the Thetford portable toilet. This is ideal if you’re staying on a campsite that doesn’t have any chemical toilet disposal facilities. Honestly, it will save you a lot of manual labor and trips.

Multiple Uses

As you know, not everyone purchases a portable toilet to go camping. We found the disabled and the elderly can benefit from the Thetford 365 Porta Potti.  If you are caring for someone who has reduced mobility, you may want to look into this portable toilet. This product is ideal for people who have trouble getting around their homes. It may not be a perfect solution for everything but it can be a great one for some. The fact that you can easily go a solid five days without emptying it is very practical for caregivers.

Thetford designed the 365  portable toilets to be a product you can easily empty. The super convenient swivel-out spout allows you to quickly and cleanly empty the tank. With this feature, there’s a minimal risk of spillage. The swivel spout comes in handy when there are no disposal waste facilities. You can just pour the waste directly into any regular toilet.

But, you have to remember, the tank holds 21-liters. This means it’s going to get a little heavy when it comes to emptying it. But, for the average person, it should be manageable. If you find yourself having a hard time managing the holding tank I have a few suggestions:

  1. You may want to consider emptying it more frequently than normal.
  2.  Get someone to help you empty the toilet.

I found empty the tank at around 50% of capacity was enough to significantly reduce the weight of the toilet. Also, before I forget, one nice feature of the Thetford 365 I found was very useful was the waste level indicator. This indicator lets you know when to dump the waste from the toilet.

Quality of The Thetford 365

When it comes to all products especially portable toilets durability is important. Honestly, I was impressed with the build quality of the Thetford portable toilet. There was a lot of thought and dedication to quality with Thetford Porta Potti 365.

For most portable toilets, smells and leaks are a big concern. Not only because we don’t want our RVs or campers to smell but because it’s a health concern as well. A toilet that develops leaks and unpleasant odors can ruin a camping trip. I’m pleased to say that Thetford 365 Porta Potti suffers from neither of those problems. I contribute this to the fact it has a sealed valve system that keeps waste securely contained. The unwanted waste is securely sealed within the tank preventing any nasty smells from escaping. If you have a family, you can ensure the safety of your family.

But, there is a bit of a downside here. Due to the design and construction of this Porta Potti it can be blocked up easily with regular toilet paper. This is why we always recommend using biodegradable toilet paper when using any portable toilet. This will save you from blocking up your toilet or possibly ruining its inner functionality. If you’re not sure what toilet paper to use with the 365 then you can read some of our recommendations.

If you’re buying an outdoor toilet for the first time you might be wondering how sanitary these things are? You don’t have to worry though, keeping a porta potti clean is actually very simple. For everyday maintenance, you can use an antibacterial wipe over the exterior surface of the toilet. When it comes to cleaning we recommend using Thetfords own Aqua-Clean product. They’re free of bleach and completely bio-degradable.
