What Is A Portable Toliet

As the name suggests, it’s a portable toilet you can move around. There are several uses of a portable toilet. Most people use a portable toilet when they either go camping, boating, traveling and most popularly while working (trucking).

There are several types of portable toilets. Some of them include the following:

  • urine-diversion dehydration toilets
  • composting toilets
  • container-based toilets
  • bucket toilets
  • freezing toilets
  • incineration toilets.

Overview

The Thetford Porta Potti 135 is a world-class portable toilet that has been a top-of-the-line toilet for several years. It’s one of the most versatile toilets on the market today. Like we mentioned before, Thetford makes products for the everyday user. This portable toilet is suitable for RVs, boats, trucks, vans, camping, and off-the-grid lifestyle. According to some users, they also use it within the healthcare system for elderly people.

If you’re looking for a portable toilet that isn’t going to cost a fortune, I wholeheartedly believe the Thetford 25100 Porta Potti 135 is the option for you. It’s great because it also comes completely assembled right out of the box which is great from an ease of use perspective.

All you really have to know about this amazing toilet is that it’s compact and durable. The portable toilet has two holding tanks with one being the fresh-water tank (2.6 Gallons) and the other a waste holding tank (2.6 Gallons). From a flushing perspective, you’re going to get an average of 27 flushes with a full tank of water before you have to refill it. The wastewater tank has a seal valve that prevents odors from escaping.  And if you’re asking, yes, you pull out the holding tank to empty it.

Pros

The design of the portable toilet is fantastic.  From my experience and others, where you can check here, the toilet is extremely durable and made for rough conditions. I wouldn’t say go out and bash the toilet around just to see if it wholes up. But, if you were to accidentally drop it while carrying it, it would still hold up.  Plus, it’s undeniably easy to use.

One thing that really stands out about the Thetford Porta Potti 135 is the ergonomic carrying handle. If you’ve carried around a heavy portable toilet, you know how important a good handle is. Most portable toilets I’ve carried around either have non-grip handles or generic handles that aren’t comfortable. Having handles that make carrying a portable toilet around easier is essential. Especially if you’re trying to avoid getting tank water splashed on you.

Speaking about avoiding getting tank water on yourself, the sealed valve is great. The holding tank on the Thetford 135 does a great job of preventing odors from escaping the holding tank. Personally, I’ve never had an issue with the holding tanking releasing odors. The toilet itself is extremely cleanable. Which is due to the removable seat and cover.

Cons

I really like this portable toilet but there’s a bit of a downside with the Thetford 25100 Porta Potti 135 which is it’s small. Obviously, if you’re looking for a very small portable toilet this toilet is perfect. From what I found, you can only really poop up to 2 times in this portable toilet before you have to empty it. If you’re someone like me who doesn’t like to have to empty portable toilets a lot, this may be annoying to deal with.

I’d highly recommend the Thetford Corp White 92814 Porta Potti 345 if you were looking for a small but bigger portable toilet. If you’re camping solo, the Thetford Porta Potti 135 is perfect but if you’re using the toilet with someone else… then, yeah, I wouldn’t recommend this model. This toilet is only really made for peeing from what I know and experience. So, if you’re a big eater and tend to take a lot of “number two’s” while traveling, I’d recommend you stay away.

If you’re really tall then you may run into some problems. If you’re average height or small, you should be fine but if you’re tall, you got a lot of squatting to do. I wouldn’t really write off this toilet just for that.

The Thetford 135 doesn’t have an indicator to notify you when to dump the waste. For this, you’re going to have to eyeball it which isn’t too hard. It’s a bit inconvenient but not something to worry about.

Verdict

If you’re a solo camper, traveler, trucker, or sailer then the Thetford Porta Potti 135 is made for you. Like I said before, the toilet is extremely durable, modern, light-weight, and leak-proof. If you’re looking for a modern portable toilet that will fit almost any need, you need to get this one. Plus, if anything does go wrong, Thetford offers a warranty 3-year warranty. Personally, I’ve never had to use the warranty during my own trial run with the toilet.

But, if you’re tall or have bad knees, I’d be cautious of the height of the portable toilet. It’s not designed to be very tall because they were aiming for an extremely portable toilet with this model. If you decide to get the Thetford Porta Potti 135 please read the Thetford Porta Potti 135 manual.
